Gayle King addressed false online rumors that she's engaged or married

The CBS Mornings co-host said viral AI-generated images that show her wearing a large ring and posing with a man at wedding are false

King joked that fans can "still shoot their shot" because she's "not married, not even engaged"

Gayle King is setting the record straight.

On Friday, Oct. 31, the CBS Mornings co-anchor addressed viral rumors that she recently got engaged and married — and even shared the images from her supposed wedding day that had many fans fooled.

"Been getting a lot of texts, a lot of messages, stories online that I got engaged," King, 70, said on the news program. "Take a look at me with a big ring on my finger. There's a lucky man — I have no idea who he is."

King explained that the images circulating online were generated by artificial intelligence. "These [AI-]generated images have been making their way across the internet," she said. "So I'm here to say exclusively on CBS Mornings, I'm not married, not even engaged."

Adding to the cringe-factor, King admitted that she's been flooded with positive messages about her non-existent romance. "People have been saying, 'Congratulations,' 'Love really happened to you,' 'I'm so happy for you.' "

When co-host Nate Burleson asked in disbelief, "That was AI?" King confirmed, "That isn't me. But Nate, even I looked at it and go, 'Is that me?' "

Reading one of the false reports aloud, King laughed at the claim that "the man who has captured her heart is none other than a prominent figure in the business world."

She joked, "Where is he? I would like to see you, sir! Show yourself!"

King continued, "'Known for his philanthropic efforts and his low-profile lifestyle, the revelation has been a new layer of intrigue to the story, meaning we're curious about who this lucky partner is.' He's so lucky, even my kids said, 'Mom, who is this?' Well, I have no idea!"

"I'm not married or engaged," King insisted. "Believe me, if I was, you'd hear it here first."

Burleson then teased viewers, "So for all you guys watching, go ahead and shoot your shot — she's still single."

King laughed and agreed: "You still have a shot!"

Of course, there are other rumors currently circulating about King, that she's leaving her post at CBS Mornings following Skydance Media's $8 billion acquisition of Paramount and the company's alleged interest in shifting CBS News to produce apolitical content.

On Thursday, Oct. 30 sources at Variety reported that King — who joined the show in November 2011 — would be departing the morning news show when her contract is set to expire in May 2026. The insiders claimed that King may be stepping into a "different role" in the news division and could "potentially produce her own programming" for CBS.

But CBS denied aspects of that report to PEOPLE.

"There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026," a CBS News spokesperson said. "She's a truly valued part of CBS and we look forward to engaging with her about the future."
