BBC viewers have been left baffled by a bizarre siren noise that aired through the 10pm information, reportedly for a number of minutes.

As broadcaster Reeta Chakrabarti delivered the night headlines, following Comic Relief's Red Nose Day fundraiser, the beeping couple be heard on both TV and BBC iPlayer, leaving some concerned.

Stay TV is not any stranger to blunders and mishaps, with current weeks seeing accidental swearing and presenters forgetting they were on air, however the alleged siren went on for a few minutes, it's been claimed.

TV critic Scott Bryan shared the technical glitch on X, writing: 'Yes it wasn't simply you. BBC One had a bizarre siren noise for a number of minutes around 10pm.'

He added: 'It happened on my TV nevertheless it also happened on iPlayer, for any geeks wondering.'

Others have been just as baffled, with viewer Joshua writing: 'I used to be actually in a lodge room and referred to as right down to complain the TV was broken.'

Tracy added: 'Glad it wasn't just me… What the hell was it? Thought I used to be off to buy a brand new TV/sound system in the morning…'

Reeta later apologised for the glitch, telling viewers: 'And just to say that some of our viewers might have heard viewers interference at the beginning of our programme tonight, apologies for that.'

Shocked viewer Chris also wrote: '@BBCNews that was weird sound interference at begin of BBC 1 Information at Ten. Luckily only lasted 20 seconds.'

'My ears harm,' Josh added.

Only a day earlier, the BBC sparked fury over a reporter's feedback about slugs, as he admitted he 'ripped them apart'.

Climate and setting correspondent Jonah Fisher made the disturbing confession throughout a phase on The Royal Horticultural Society asking gardeners to vary their damaging perceptions on the slimy creatures and think about their contributions to the eco-system.

Fisher confessed: 'I was out in my allotment in Cardiff final weekend, I didn't know I used to be coming to talk to you, and each time I saw a slug, I picked it up, I ripped it aside, I killed it, as a result of I didn't need it consuming my crops.'

His feedback surprised viewers, with X consumer @trackso367 writing: 'Who the hell is the presenter speaking about slugs- "I find them, decide them up and rip them apart, i kill them". What sort of maniacs are you hiring!'

@sam_hasell added: 'Your reporter is a psychotic nutter who rips slugs apart?'
